Free Cookie Cutter STL Files
Minted Prints offers a set of free STL files as a genuine sample of what the catalogue contains. These aren't cut-down or crippled versions — they're the same quality as paid designs, tested on Bambu A1, Prusa MK4, and Ender 3 V2 before release. This page covers what's available, how to download and use the files, and what the licensing allows.
What's available for free
The free set currently includes:
- Classic round, 70mm — the standard round cutter. 20mm height, 0.4mm cutting edge, 4mm handle wall. Prints in 25 minutes on a Bambu A1 at 0.2mm layers.
- Five-pointed star, 75mm — medium detail on the inner angles, designed so all five inner corners print cleanly without bridging issues. Works at 0.2mm layers without supports.
- Simple heart, 65mm — a smooth, readable heart silhouette. Classic proportions, not the over-complicated version with a dip that's hard to clean.
- Rounded square, 60mm — 3mm corner radius, 20mm tall. Useful as a base shape for monogram or monogram-style designs.
These four come as STL and .3mf. The .3mf includes a recommended print profile for Bambu Studio; if you're on PrusaSlicer or Cura, use the STL and the settings below.
How to download the files
Go to the catalogue page and filter by "Free". Each design has a download link. No account is required. The files are served directly — click the link and the file downloads to your browser's default download folder.
If you're on iOS or iPadOS and the file opens in the browser rather than downloading: long-press the link and choose "Download Linked File".
Recommended print settings
These settings apply to all four free files and produce reliable results on the tested printers:
- Layer height: 0.2mm
- Walls / perimeters: 3
- Infill: 15%
- Nozzle temperature: 205°C (standard PLA)
- Bed temperature: 60°C
- Fan speed: 100% from layer 3
- Brim: 8mm
- Supports: not needed
Print time per cutter: 20–35 minutes. Filament cost: roughly $0.12–$0.20 per cutter using a standard $18/kg PLA spool. See the full print guide for more detail on settings and troubleshooting.
After downloading: food safety
Wash any printed cutter in hot soapy water before first use. 3D-printed PLA has microscopic layer lines that can trap residue; washing before and after use is the right habit. For heavy-use cutters, a thin coat of food-grade epoxy resin seals the layer lines and makes cleaning easier. Details in the food-safe 3D printing guide.
Licensing — the plain version
Free files from Minted Prints are licensed for personal use. Plain English version:
- You can: download, print as many copies as you like for your own kitchen, give printed copies to friends and family, use the baked cookies commercially (a bakery can use our cutters to make and sell cookies).
- You cannot: redistribute the STL files themselves, sell the STL files, or upload them to other file-sharing platforms. The STL is the product — that's what the licence covers. The cookies you bake with it are yours.
- Commercial printing: if you run a 3D printing business and want to print and sell the physical cutters (not the files), that requires a commercial licence. Email [email protected] to discuss.
Paid files in the catalogue carry the same licence terms, just applied to the purchased design.
Why try before you buy makes sense here
Cookie cutter STLs are a specific kind of purchase — you're trusting that the geometry will print well on your machine and cut cleanly on your dough. The free files let you verify that on your actual printer before spending anything on paid designs. Print the round and the star, test them on a batch of dough, and you'll know exactly what to expect from the rest of the catalogue.
Once you've tested the free files, browse the full catalogue — 300+ designs across seasonal, alphabet, botanical, geometric, and custom categories. Custom shapes can be commissioned through custom orders.
